Quality nutrition helps deer recover body condition after winter. Pregnant does face increasing nutritional demands, while bucks begin a new antler-growth cycle.
Protein, energy, vitamins and minerals support normal body growth, lactation in does, developing fawns and antler development in bucks.
As forage and weather change, dependable nutrition can help deer maintain body condition and replenish nutritional reserves, including after the rut.
THE FALL FREAKS APPROACH
Whitetail nutritional demands and natural food sources change throughout the year. Fall Freaks uses a 20% protein Spring / Summer blend and a 16% protein Fall / Winter blend so landowners can match supplemental nutrition more closely to the season.
Both formulas combine protein with vitamins, minerals, prebiotics and probiotics. The goal is not to replace quality habitat, browse or food plots, but to complement a sound habitat-management program with a consistent, high-quality supplemental feed.
Adequate dietary protein and energy are needed for maintenance and growth. Consistent access to quality nutrition can be especially useful when natural forage is limited or changes seasonally.
Antler growth depends on age, genetics, health and nutrition. Adequate protein, energy and minerals help ensure nutrition is not the limiting factor.
Spring and summer bring increased demands associated with late pregnancy, lactation and fawn growth, making forage quality and balanced nutrition particularly important.
Fall Freaks includes prebiotics and probiotics as part of its formulation to support normal digestive function and nutrient utilization.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS
Controlled white-tailed deer research supports an important management principle: when nutrition is limiting, improving diet quality can improve body growth and antler development. It does not mean feed alone creates trophy deer—age, genetics, habitat, population density and overall health remain important.
Texas research summarized by Mississippi State found that four-year-old bucks receiving a 16% crude-protein diet produced antlers scoring about 20 Boone & Crockett inches higher than bucks receiving an 8% diet under controlled conditions.
In Mississippi State research, second-generation bucks raised under high-quality nutrition averaged body-weight increases of 18% relative to wild bucks from their respective regions, with the magnitude varying by region.
Mississippi State emphasizes that antler size is influenced by age, nutrition and genetics. Habitat management and appropriate deer density remain fundamental parts of a sound deer-management program.
